Went for a hour long ride yesterday when it was -27c, it was almost too hot. Today I took out the snow coach and gave the girls a 2 hour ride.
Mine is like this but way more dirty.
My snowmobile is a 2007 Yamaha venture MP. A 500cc 4 stroke 83hp machine.
So what does oppo have as sleds?

This will sound crazy to Canadians, but I have never driven, owned, or even known a person with a snowmobile/snolemasheen.
It looks like a helluva lotta fun, though, and I didn’t know those towable sleds existed for the kiddos.

No snowmobile here. Haven’t ridden one in probably seven or eight years. I miss it.
My uncle has some decent machines. Granted, he puts them at risk by riding them across open water in the ice, but hey, it’s his funeral.

That snow coach is amazing! I never knew there was such a thing. Your girls are very lucky! What fun that would be.

I’m 38 and I never owned one before I bought this one used I never 2013. It had 700 kms on it. I have less than 2000kms on it now.
I started major home renovations and became a father twice since owning it, so that explains my low mileage.

I’ve never driven a snowmobile before. I’ve been out of town plenty, but never in the winter, so if I’m somewhere with friends or family that have property and machines, I’ve only driven quads and trucks around.

A 1990 Artic Cat Jag long track, 440cc suszki twin 2 stroke. The engine blew up 2 years ago. The piston ring went on #2, then scored the block bad losing all compression. I put it in the shed (in peices) after it broke yet to fix it. It cost me $600 to buy. It’s good for beating around north Ontario, & ice fishing. It’s how you expect a cheap old sled to look. Cracked windshield, cracked hood, ripped seat.

They even have 4 seaters
Many different styles during the years.

Vintage machines must be a thing over there too?
Some days you can see about 30-50 vintage machines passing together in front of my place.
I’m about 5 minutes away from a lake and 2 minutes away from the ex railroad.

I needed a cheap long track for my dad’s hunt camp past Cochrane. I don’t feel bad bouncing off tree branches while breaking trail it’s so cheap.

Same. I think for those of us who grew up in Canadian cities, we never encounter them or know anyone with one

What kind of clothes do you wear for -27C snowmobiling?
I am asking because I am always cold when it’s even a little chilly out, so what works for you in -27C might work for me at +5C.

A snowmobile suit.
http://www.chokodesign.com/eng/adventurer.html
With the matching pants. A balaclava under my helmet, Leather mitts, and -40 boots.
When you’re dressed to deal with it, the extreme cold ain’t nothing.
I also wear it when I plow my yard with my utv when it’s that cold too.
I only wear a normal winter jacket to go to work, or in town. You get used to it, until those -35 to -45 days.
They automatically cancel school if it’s -35 or colder, so as most northern Canadian kids, you kinda hope to wake up to a really cold day. I would go alpine skiing with my grandfather when school was cancelled.

There is some vintage, but it’s mostly newer sleds.

Chicagos fire and police departments have a few of them for special opperations. i remember in 2011 when we were hit with a really bad snowstorm they were using them to rescue drivers who were stranded on the road that runs next to lake michigan, lake shore drive

guess you can stick a heater in too. no heater in mine, since the only power it gets if for the rear light and brake light.

my father in law runs a small propane heater in his golf cart in the winter, like using the little campfire tanks. seems to work fairly well if you ever wanted one lol

Basically the same machine.
You most likely changed the fuel injection relay and do the reverse wiggle too.

Guessing atv/utvs ain’t too popular in cities like Toronto, Montréal....
They are all outdoors toys that can be a hassle if you have to tow them out of town every time you want to use them. Here in rural northern Quebec many of use get to ride them directly from our yard.

I used to live in Toronto, but I’m now in Calgary. See them on pickup trucks heading out of the city, but no one I know has one or has ridden one

I used to have a Polaris like the one in your top picture - a 2004 700 Touring. It was a blast, as I lived on a lake at the time. I parked it beside the garage under a little roof. I could rip out of the yard and be on the lake in literally 3 seconds, going 90mph in another few seconds. I drove it to work a lot. Nothing wakes you up like 100mph across the lake at 7:45am. I could take it to the local bar, which was not always the best idea.
I grew up playing occasionally with whatever old machines friends had kicking around. We’d tow each other uphill with plastic sleds, then take turns sledding down and driving the machine.
I bought a 1973 Chapparal 440 in high school, it was a total POS but it ran great.
Where I live, I wouldn’t quite say “most” people have them, but it’s a huge thing around here. Hell, I can see a main corridor trail from my office, and I could from my old work, too. Last year was brutal for snowmobiling because every time we got snow, it then rained. We’ve been good for early season riding, but now it’s going to be 50 on Friday with over an inch of rain, which will basically ruin all the local trails. That’s a big part of why I sold mine a few years back.
